Arvada West is proud to offer a full selection of three levels of orchestra, collectively representing a comprehensive orchestral education
String Orchestra
String Orchestra is offered to all string instrumentalists who demonstrate an interest in improving their performing skills and technical proficiency through performance in orchestra. The primary goal of this course is to foster the growth of the individual musician as an ensemble member and enhance knowledge of music as an 'art form'. This ensemble performs a variety of string orchestral repertoire from all periods of music. Members of the String Orchestra are combined with the Concert Orchestra and Symphonic Band, to form a Symphony Orchestra. During the school year, this ensemble performs concerts in our school auditorium and also attends state music festivals. All incoming freshman string students should register for this class.
Concert Orchestra
Concert Orchestra is an intermediate ensemble offered to all string instrumentalists who demonstrate an interest in improving their performing skills and technical proficiency through performance in orchestra. The primary goal of this course is to foster the growth of the individual musician as an ensemble member and enhance knowledge of music as an 'art form'. This ensemble performs a variety of string orchestral repertoire from all periods of music. Members of the Concert Orchestra are combined with the String Orchestra and Symphonic Band, to form a Symphony Orchestra. During the school year, this ensemble performs concerts in our school auditorium and also attends state music festivals.
Chamber Orchestra
Chamber Orchestra is an audition only class open to all string students who demonstrate a high level of technical and musical proficiency and the interest in improving these skills to attain the highest level of artistry possible for both the individual and the ensemble. The primary goal of this course is to foster the growth of the individual musician and teach music as an 'art form' through performance in orchestra. This elite concert ensemble performs standard string orchestra repertoire from all periods of music. Members of the Chamber Orchestra are combined with the Wind Ensemble, to form a Symphony Orchestra. During the school year, this ensemble performs concerts in our school auditorium and also attends state music festivals.
